Homework or slavery? Since the time of our grand parents or even before, schools have applied the use of homework in their curriculums. For me it’s a complete violation to children’s rights. Our children are treated like slaves! Is it normal that after 8 hours of hard work in school when our kids come back home they have to sit down in a chair to continue with the useless, inefficient and unproductive homework, that their teachers set them. Personally I don’t! Is it normal that because of homework our kids cannot interact and socialise out side school and isolate them from society? No, No and No! Homework is a practice that should be banned in school because of health problems. It is scientifically proven that homework is the principal source of stress in children and could create serious sequels in their future lives.
Students do more than 1884 hours of homework in secondary including the revisions for the IGCSE and the extra IB work, over all it would add up to 1986 hours of homework, this is equivalent to nearly 83 days in others words 2.7 months doing homework non stop. Some thing else that shocks me is that teachers give homework during holydays. We all know that holydays are essentially to give break to students; well apparently some teachers don’t know this because even during holydays our children still have tones of homework to do. “Homework tests weather students have understood what they have done in class without the help of the teachers or their friends” There is no evidence for this, has any one actually tested weather that is true? No! The only thing that is scientifically proved is that homework is the principal source of stress in young children. “Homework helps students organise their self’s for further studies in Universities” There is no evidence that homework actually helps students how to organise. What is actually proven is that homework takes kids time to do other things like do sport socialise and sleep. I would go even further, too much homework affects the children’s routines and for some people this can cause lots, maybe too much stress. What does help children organise are other activities like sport or even scouts. Over all it is clear that homework is not appropriate for students. There are other thing we could do instead of home work witch is to make the one or maybe one and a half ours longer so that teacher are able to do the work they need to do in school instead of setting it for homework, whichwould be a lot less frustrating for students.
